Summer reading

I used to love the summer reading challenge in school.  I wanted to out-read all my classmates, but even more so, I wanted to beat my own record from prior summers.  And it was a double win because that competition was for something I already loved doing:  reading!

It’s a vibe that’s carried forward all through my life.  And there’s just something extra delicious about summer reading.

Sure, there’s the whole “beach read” genre that seems to have its heyday in the summer, but I love summertime reading to expand across lots of genres to keep things spicy.

So this week, in honor of summer’s end approaching, here are a few of my recent favorites to share if you’re looking for that last juicy summer read!

(Not all are new books, and in fact many are not, because I am an avid library-goer and the waitlist for new books is looooong.  Which gives me the opportunity to enjoy others in the meantime!)

The God of the Woods by Liz Moore – A gripping mystery of a vanished girl, a powerful family, and long-buried secrets.

The Husbands by Holly Gramazio – A witty, surreal exploration of love and choice when one woman discovers an endless supply of alternate husbands.

Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty – A page-turner about fate and free will after airline passengers learn the exact time of their future deaths.

The Briar Club by Kate Quinn – A suspenseful historical drama where secrets, friendship, and betrayal collide in a 1950s D.C. boardinghouse.

Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman – A profound, witty meditation on making peace with life’s brevity and living meaningfully in limited time.

Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance by Alison Espach – A tender, haunting coming-of-age story about loss, love, and the ties that linger beyond death.

I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes – A relentless international thriller of espionage, terrorism, and one man racing to stop a catastrophic plot.

The 5 Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom – A guide to building true, full wealth across time, relationships, health, mind, and money.
