New year, new me?

There are new beginnings all around us.  And the most infamous one is a new year.  That seems to be the time when folks envision big changes – a new job, a new relationship, improved health …everything will change with a turn of the calendar page.

New year, new me!

It’s so easy to sit down and write out all the things we wish were different.  And all those heroic steps we’ll take to make all those things happen.  All at once.  Starting in January.

But the irony here is thick.  January 1 rolls around and often those ambitions and plans fall to the curb like last month’s Christmas tree.

Because changes don’t happen overnight.  And usually not in a huge bundle.  They happen in drips.  Slow, consistent drops that are quiet and frankly not that sexy.  And, if they were drops we were committed to, we may have already been doing them…on December 27th or September 15th or May 23rd.

The turn of the calendar page is just another day.  And every day, no matter what the day, we have a chance to start again.

So whether you created goals and plans for January 1 that have already fallen away, or you started them and are faltering, or maybe you never created any at all…you can change that any time you like.  Every day is a new day and a new opportunity.  You don’t have to wait for January 1, 2027.
