Fleeting moments

I was reading an email newsletter the other day and the writer posed a great question – what is your “rich” life?

What an interesting question, I thought; I wonder what that is for me beyond the knee-jerk responses that would probably come up first.

I contemplated the question for a few minutes and wrote the question in my notes app to save for journaling later.

That was probably a month ago.  I still have yet to sit down and define it thoughtfully.

On a recent Sunday, I had a thought about business goals for the new year. And instead of writing it in my notes app, I actually sat down immediately and started writing down what came to me.  It just poured out – I thought about the types of work I love the most, the capacity I have for clients, how I like to structure my work and my days…suddenly I had a whole page of notes and a spreadsheet to go with it.

Too many times we put off something that holds a spark for us RIGHT NOW.  Elizabeth Gilbert writes about a similar phenomenon that happens with ideas – if one occurs to you, if you don’t take action on it, it will fly away and land on someone else’s shoulder until someone picks it up and takes it on.

It’s so easy to lose momentum on an idea, an inquiry, a lead…if we don’t tackle it right when it hits.  I personally get caught up in thinking I won’t have time to fully address something right then, so why start at all…which means often times I never get to it.  Instead, what if even just 5 minutes toward that inkling could get the ball rolling?

What spark is calling for you to pay attention and pick it up, even for just a few moments?
